Sainsbury’s | ANPR solution - Horizon Parking
Overview
Horizon Parking in partnership with Vysionics Intelligent Traffic Solutions, were asked to deliver a state of the art ANPR car park management solution for a number of Sainsbury’s stores.
Problem
Sainsbury’s car parks have traditionally been managed by parking attendants with varying degrees of success. Sainsbury’s ideally look to provide free uncontrolled car parking for their customers, however, in areas where pressure on spaces was too great Sainsbury’s wanted to introduce a limited free parking period so that genuine shoppers would never be deprived of a space.
Solution
We delivered a fully integrated turnkey solution from installation of the ANPR equipment to a dedicated enforcement and appeals service. The system reads vehicle number plates on entry and displays them on a local variable message sign, which also informs Sainsbury’s customers when their free parking period expires. A second camera captures number plates as vehicles leave, in order to calculate how long the vehicle has been parked, allowing us to enforce the terms and conditions of parking where appropriate.
Results and benefits
By using the latest ANPR technology we have delivered a simple and cost effective solution. Our ANPR solution has quickly helped to reduce misuse of the parking areas and freed up space for genuine customers, who have noted that it is now easier to park closer to the store. Store Managers report fewer complaints about parking too!
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said:
“Since many of Sainsbury’s stores are close to busy town centres that charge for parking, we wanted to be able to continue to offer Sainsbury’s customers free parking, whilst keeping the parking operation simple and easy to understand. The ANPR solution provided by Horizon Parking has achieved this, whilst providing us with a far more effective way to manage our car parks.”
